MAJOR SPOILERS FOR AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES IN THIS APPLICATION

NAME: Kaname Date (Real Name: Hayato Yagyu)
AGE: 48 years old
CANON: AI: The Somnium Files
CANON POINT: Post-AI:NI
CRAU: N/A
OTHER: The why will be described more in the history but an important thing about Date is he wears a very hyperrealistic mask 24/7 to look the way he does. He has to arrive with the mask on and wearing it in GP or he'll probably go crazy, ngl. He has identity issues up the wazoo and though he's back in his original body, without the mask to look like his previous body, he just won't feel comfortable and be unplayable as a character. So, please let me keep the mask, mods! Also him wearing a mask is a major, major spoiler as well so if you do allow him to keep the mask, I would appreciate not having to spoil other players on its existence.

SUITABILITY: Date will be thrilled to be in a place like Golden Peacock! As a certified Pervertβ„’, he just can't get enough of sex, porn, and all things related. He's a fairly red blooded adult man and it's a pretty consistent character trait of his that he finds sex to be his favorite and most fascinating thing. So, honestly, he'll be fine in Golden Peacock β€” up until he starts going stir crazy at not having a mystery to solve or criminals to catch.

HISTORY: Wiki Link | Date comes from a world very similar to the real one, with a few modern technological advancements. He was born on August 3rd, 1988 (probably). Orphaned at birth, he grew up in an orphanage where he was abused regularly throughout his childhood. This instilled a righteousness and a hatred of evil and violence in him from an early age and what led him on his eventual path to becoming a police officer, eventually gaining the rank of detective.

This is where it gets wild. As a detective, Date became more and more disillusioned with police work and when trying to apprehend a criminal for assault and murder of multiple women, the criminal taunted him about being able to escape through connections and as a result β€” Date shot him, repeatedly, though he was unarmed. When the case was eventually brought to trial, the Metropolitan Police Department was afraid it would cause a scandal if revealed and so they fabricated evidence to let Date walk and return to his job without consequences. From there, Date believed the only way to actually deliver justice against criminals was to kill them and proceeded to kill 17 more criminals over the course of a year β€” with the MPD covering up his crimes β€” until he was caught by the yakuza.

After targeting a yakuza executive and killing him, he was tracked down by the patriarch of the family and kidnapped. Instead of killing Date, they decided to force him into becoming an assassin for the yakuza. With no other option, Date became a detective by day and yakuza assassin by night. It was only after getting injured during an assassination and rescued by an elementary school teacher that he began to wake up from his murder fog and want to live again, wanting to escape the yakuza life and live cleanly with the elementary school teacher who saved him. When he asked the yakuza patriarch to let him go clean, the patriarch agreed with the caveat he kill the elementary school teacher and her daughter.

This is where it gets even more wild. To get out of that situation, Date went to the police and to one of his old friends and confessed to all his crimes. In order to save him, his friend, Shizue, came up with a plan to use police technology to swap bodies with the yakuza patriarch and make an order not to touch the elementary school teacher. Of course, the body swapping plan went badly. The details don't matter so much as the end result: Date ended up in the body of a serial killer working with the yakuza and lost his memories while the yakuza patriarch and the original serial killer were assumed dead. When Shizue found him in this new body, she realized Date was stuck in this new body and had amnesia. So, she took him in and set him up with a new name: Kaname Date and a new job: ABIS Special Agent.

That's all stuff that happens before the first game starts. When the first game starts, you meet Date as a special agent for a team called ABIS β€” a special investigation squad that uses a machine to delve into the subconscious dreams of criminals and find clues. According to Date, he has no idea who he is beyond the past six years he's been living as Kaname Date and that's it. At the start of the game, he's tasked with catching a serial killer that's on the loose and it's through the course of this investigation that he discovers his memories again, figures out the tie between the current serial killer and the previous serial killer, and in turn, regains his original body. After the case, he discards the name Hayato Yagyu to live life as Kaname Date instead.

He's also become a father, of sorts. Taking in a 8 year old girl named Mizuki five years prior and living with her. She's 12 at the start of the game while Date thinks he's 30 because of his lack of memories.

Fast forward to the second game, third game chronologically, not much happens to Date in this game but he does find himself tracking down a serial killer again. It's through these events that he corners the serial killer with his colleagues in a cathedral. The cathedral gets blown up, Date gets crushed by rubble and is presumed dead afterwards. This isn't actually what happens, he instead got captured by the serial killer, lost his memories again, escaped from the serial killer's lair and wandered the country aimlessly doing odd jobs for six years. When the serial killer resurfaced and his crimes were announced on TV, Date's memories came back and he returned to Mizuki and his colleagues to help them catch the serial killer.

So, tl;dr, angry orphan becomes corrupt cop becomes yakuza assassin. Swaps bodies with a serial killer, loses his memories, lives a fake life as a detective until his memories come back and he gets his original body back. From there, stays as a detective until he gets in an accident, loses his memories again, wanders the country aimlessly for six years, regains his memories and comes back home.

ABILITIES:

PORNO MAG POWERS: When Date becomes aroused, usually because he's looking at a porno mag, his reaction time increases by 3.6 times and he gains something like super speed and super strength.

Otherwise, he's just a regular ol' smarty pants detective.

VICES:

PERVERT: The main thing you have to know about Date is that he's a pervert. It's not something he's shy about or something he hides. He feels no shame. He loves sex, he loves porn, he loves anything that has to do with the above. It's his major vice and hobby of choice. While he spends a lot of time in the game focused on solving mysteries and catching criminals, his inner monologue almost always reverts to something perverted and he's called out multiple times in the game, by his friends, colleagues, and daughter, over his questionable hobby and collection of porn. He doesn't really provide a real justification for why he likes porn so much, other than the fact that he just does. That's why it's his main vice.

WORKAHOLIC: Date is a workaholic. At the beginning of the second game, it's shown that he spends so much time working that he's forced to go on leave by his boss. This isn't surprising when you take into account his extreme dislike of criminals and vendetta against injustice. He's obsessed with his work, obsessed with helping people and righting the wrongs of the world and so he feels the most useful and the most at ease when he's doing his job as a detective. It's an interesting juxtaposition to his silly love of porn because while his brain is rotted from all the porn he consumes, he's still incredibly serious and incredibly professional when it comes to his detective work. He just really loves helping people and protecting the weak.

JUSTICE: Justice is a main vice of Date's because it comes out in his life in such toxic ways. Right now in his life, it only hinders him by making him a workaholic and causing him to lose his sense of self when pursuing criminals. As a result, he'll dedicate his entire being to cases and forget simple things like eating or sleeping. But in his past life, as Hayato Yagyu, his lust for justice was what sent him on the course to killing so many criminals and becoming a corrupt cop as a result. He's mellowed out over time and his burning anger at the injustices of the world no longer dominates his mind but it does linger in the background, constantly, becoming the motivation for him to keep going.

VIRTUES:

LOVING: Date is an incredibly loving father and mentor to other characters in the series. He cares so much about the people in his life and will give them the shirt off his back if they ever needed him to. There is a kindness to Date that is not immediately apparent but very obvious once you get to know him. He's not aware of this kindness himself and would be the first to say he doesn't care that much about people at all, but this is false when compared to his actual actions. He loves, loves, loves his family, his friends, and his community and that love is the prime driver of most of his actions.

DEPENDABLE: Date is dependable. He's the main glue of the cast of characters in AI: The Somnium Files because of his ability to just be there for everyone. He's the hero that comes in to save the day nine times out of ten and other characters rely on his ability to be there just when they need him. Consistently, he is shown to be someone who pays attention to details and follows up with other characters on the things they need him to follow up on. He cares, probably too much, and that's what leads him to be a dependable friend and ally to the other characters in the series. He's got that main character dependability, even when he's not the main character.

INTELLIGENT: Date is a good detective. He's smart and clever and his instincts help him follow cases to their natural conclusion quite easily. While he downplays his own intelligence and leans heavily on the AI detective partner he has, when he's without her he's still able to solve cases and find the answers to the investigations he's on through his own hard work. This is shown numerous time within the games, most recently when he was trapped in a life or death escape room by a criminal and Aiba, his AI partner, lost battery power. He was able to still figure out how to break free of the escape room and rescue the other participants on his own.

SUIT REQUESTS:

♦ DIAMONDS: Date is a pretty physical guy. With his love of porn and his weird porno mag powers, Diamonds would suit him because of this. It would just play right into his fantasies about sex, marathon sex, weird sex, and other fetishes he's been shown to have. It also just resonates thematically with him because of his damaged sense of self as a result of the multiple body swaps he's been through and feeling so disconnected from his physical body. While he's returned to his original body, the fact that he wears a mask 24/7 to look like the body he stole definitely showcases a level of identity issues that he refuses to address. So, Diamonds would very much force him to reconcile his perceived physical state with his actual physical state β€” and maybe even eventually force him to take off the mask.

β™₯ HEARTS: Hearts would suit Date because he's just a loving guy, as described above. He's highly emotional and very sensitive at his core but at the same time, he's a very guarded person and keeps his secrets close to his chest. He's the type to share silly, outlandish things about himself to be perceived as an open book while telling nothing at all about his actual feelings and his actual past and challenges he's had. So, Hearts would definitely play on his mind a little more with forcing him to get more in touch with his emotions and reveal things that he might not be ready to reveal.

RANK REQUESTS: No preference!

SAMPLES:

SAMPLE ONE: PSL β€” Thread with Ryuki; starts as text, transitions into smut. Involves discussion of his porno mag powers and his perversion. Also includes talking about feelings!

SAMPLE TWO: Game β€” Short term game thread with Gustave; major spoilers for both games. Includes a love confession and smut.

SAMPLE THREE: Meme β€” Morning After thread with Edamura; lighthearted in tone and not as heavy as the previous two threads. Very silly.
